So we wrote, we Bishops of the Abruzzi and Molise, two years ago, July 25, 2008.
If today interveniamo nuovamente in materia è sempre per amore del nostro popolo, per promuovere il rispetto dell’ambiente attraverso una spiritualità tanto vigile verso il prossimo, quanto impegnata nell’adorazione del Creatore, nella consapevolezza che le preoccupazioni riguardo alla salvaguardia del creato allora segnalate sono ancora attuali e in alcuni casi perfino maggiori.
1. Una prima minaccia cui facevamo riferimento riguarda la costruzione del cosiddetto Centro Oli di Ortona. Il nostro allarme non è restato inascoltato, al punto che lo stesso Governo regionale ha varato una legge a tutela del territorio, nei confronti di un’attività considerata tra le più inquinanti per le risorse naturali, con conseguenze anche gravi sulla salute degli abitanti. Purtroppo, questa legge è stata impugnata a livello nazionale perché si occupa anche di ciò che riguarda il mare, materia che non è di competenza regionale. Auspichiamo che si attivi una collaborazione efficace fra Governo nazionale e Regione al fine di mantenere gli impegni assunti e tutelare tanto il nostro territorio, quanto il nostro mare, risorsa e patrimonio prezioso della nostra gente.
2. Un’ulteriore preoccupazione riguarda l’acqua, bene comune la cui fruizione è un diritto fondamentale e inalienabile di tutti. Ci viene segnalata in particolare la minaccia costituita in alcune zone da un inadeguato smaltimento di materiali tossici come l’amianto. Invitiamo tutti ad una mobilitazione morale e spirituale per tenere alta la vigilanza e la corresponsabilità per la diagnosi dei rischi e le terapie da adottare in questo campo.
4. La crisi economica ed occupazionale ci preoccupa in modo grave: se si intravedono segnali di ripresa a livello globale e nazionale, la ricaduta dei processi critici sulla vita quotidiana of our people today more than ever it seems negative.
